A pretty dumb condom ad

If I had the time, wouldn’t be too hard to do a spoof. (I resent that they put it to one of my favourite pieces of classical music.)

Beautiful and happy children. Imagine if they had just changed the self-centred attitude of the father-character, these would have been vignettes of joy!

…or vignettes on an episode of America’s Funniest Home Videos on how to get canned. What, are they trying to say that having kids is like taking a blow to the nuts? You aren’t kidding, Andrea. Totally spoof-worthy.

Ridiculous and embarrassing. For the company who made it, I mean. There’s something off about the tone, too. Even if I liked their message, which I really, really don’t, I don’t think it would resonate.

Oh man…. As a mother of 8 children currently at home for the summer, I laughed so hard I’m having cramps. Definitely looks like my house, minus the self-absorbed dad.

There wouldn’t be nearly as much chaos if the fathers were playing with their kids instead of trying to act like they were not around. Unfortunately, while most children are not a failure of contraception, this is a rampant cause of child-rearing “problems”… But I guess they didn’t publish this video to get parenting advice, did they?

What also made me laugh is that the snapshot into these pretend families lives does not portray unplanned children. The house, the toys, the BBQ, the minivan, the suburbs all suggest families who went into parenting willingly and made lifestyle choices accordingly. You don’t end-up a domesticated father of four through repetitive unprotected sex, know what I mean? Unless you’re a bit dense… in which case I don’t think the irony of the ad will register.

Actually, I need to correct my previous comment. You DO become a father of four through repetitive unprotected sex. My point was that it shouldn’t come as a surprise every time.
